Another Venice-inspired doodle: il gondoliere

On Friday, July 1, I planned and pedalled another GPS doodle inspired by my recent holiday in Venice: a gondolier.

Since July 1 marks the anniversary of the enactment of the British North America Act in 1867 – an important milestone on Canada’s way to independence – I made a special Canada Day version of my GPS doodle (with a little help from Photoshop).

Interesting facts: 200 years ago, 10,000 gondolas jostled their way through the canals of Venice. Today, the profession of gondolier is controlled by a guild, which issues just 425 licenses. These are granted after periods of training and apprenticeship and a comprehensive exam that tests knowledge of Venetian history and landmarks, foreign language skills and practical skills in handling a gondola.

Bravo. BRAVISSIMO! I think this is one of my favorite doodles yet, Stephen — especially with the addition of the Canadian flag. Well played, sir. 🙂
PS: Thanks also for the facts about gondolas. I didn’t know any of this, so you’ve greatly expanded my knowledge today.
